Moonlit River Walk

On August 30, 2015 a collection of people gathered under the full harvest moon for our walk down the path of the former Garrison Creek to the buried Crawford Bridge in Trinity Bellwoods Park. Starting at Christie Pits, we talked about the history of the creek, the inspiration the landscape has been for the community, as well as its continued presence in literature, poetry and performance art. Glowing wax paper boats were left at each site to mark our progress, and transpose the path of the creek onto the current urban fabric. The walk explored our thesis that the lost creek has a continued presence within the human geography of its adjacent neighbourhoods.

The contribution of Lost River activist Helen Mills was key to leading and organizing the event, and it was greatly enhanced by the poet Maureen Scott Harris’s reading. Photo credits go to Ricardo Jota and David Holman for the photos.
